Wastewater Treatment

Chatham County operates Bynum Wastewater Treatment Plant (NC0035866) and the associated collection system.  The plant has a treatment capacity of 25,000 gallons per day and has the following customer count:
    41 residential customers
    1 restaurant (Al & Sons)
    1 school (Perry Harrison)
The plant treats wastewater to a level that meets or exceeds regulatory requirements as cost-effectively as possible.  The treatment removes solids that are suspended in the wastewater as well as biological and chemical pollutants that consume oxygen. Nitrogen and phosphorous also are removed. Residues from the treatment process are biological solids that are pumped and hauled to approved site. Tests that federal regulations require for the removal are performed at the water treatment plant laboratory and by contract laboratory services.

Collection System
The collection system system consists of 2-miles of 8-inch sewer mains.
