The Solid Waste & Recycling Main Facility holds different events throughout the year at our Main Facility. Check back here as we will add events and details as they are available.

The Main Facility is located at 28 County Services Road, Pittsboro, NC 27312. Link to Google Map.

Household Hazardous Waste Events 

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) events are a way for residents to safely dispose of HHW. The HHW events are typically held the third Saturday of each month, from March to November from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. These events are free for Chatham County residents. No decal is required, but you must show ID with your address.

Due to coronavirus the April and May HHW events have been cancelled. Visit our Household Hazardous Waste page for more details and this year's event dates. 

Mulch Sales

Each year we sell mulch that is created from the yard waste disposed of at our Main Facility throughout the year. Saturday mulch sales begin in March and run through May. We also have month long weekday sales throughout the summer and fall, while supplies last. Visit our mulch sales page for more details. Due to coronavirus April and May mulch sales have been cancelled. We are working to plan mulch sales during the summer. Check back for more details. 

Earth Day Event 

Solid Waste & Recycling hosts an annual Earth Day event that is open to all Chatham County residents (no decal required) and includes free document shredding, free take back of unwanted medications, compost bin sales, raffle prizes, and give-a-ways. It also coincides with a Household Hazardous Waste event and Saturday Mulch SalesDue to coronavirus, the 2020 Earth Day Event has been cancelled. 

The next Earth Day Event will be in April 2021. We will have another shredding event on Saturday, November 21, 2020 though so check back here for more details in the future. 

America Recycles Day Event

America Recycles Day is November 15 and is a day to educate, motivate, and make recycling bigger and better. Chatham County will be celebrating America Recycles Day with educational opportunities and a document shredding event.

Document Shredding- November 21, 2020
Chatham residents can bring up to three boxes or bags of paper from their household for free shredding. This service provides an opportunity for residents to safely destroy and recycle old tax records, credit card statements, and other personal documents. No business waste.

Educational Opportunities- week of November 15
We will offer free educational opportunities related to recycling, composting, and waste reduction. Check back for more details on these classes offered.
