Energy-Low Income Energy Assistance Program

The Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) provides a one-time annual vendor payment to help eligible low-income famiies pay their heating bills (not cooling bills).  The benefit amount is either $300, $400, $500 and this is determined based on household size, household income, and the household heating source. 

Eligibility Requirements

A household that applies must:

  • Have reserves at or below $2,200
  • Be responsible for its heating bills
  • Have at least one U.S. citizen or a noncitizen who meets the eligibility criteria. 
  • Household income must be less than 130% of the current poverty level
Hours of Operation:

Monday through Friday
8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Applications Requirements:

Only households containing an elderly person age 60 and above or a disabled person receiving services through the Division of Aging and Adult Services are eligible to potentially receive benefits from December 1st through December 31st or until funds are exhausted.  Disabled persons are defined as those receiving SSI, SSA, or VA disability.

Any household can potentially receive benefits from January 1st through March 31st or until funds are exhausted.
