Chatham County has one of the best benefits packages around. Below is a brief listing of our benefits:
Major Medical benefits are provided for regular employees scheduled to work at least 30 hours per week. Coverage is available through Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, at current group rates, for eligible dependents. The Health care plan also includes a pharmacy and a vision plan.

At no cost to employees, the County provides for 100% of twice annual preventive care procedures and, after an annual deductible, the plan pays 80% of routine procedures and 50% of non-routine procedures. Coverage is available, at current group rates, for eligible dependents and is provided by Delta Dental.
A $10,000 term policy is provided at no charge to all employees that qualify for health coverage. Supplemental employee and dependent coverage up to $250,000 is available to eligible employees and dependents. Death Benefit of one times annual salary is provided by the Retirement System and the County, minimum $25,000 and maximum of $50,000.
Wellness Programming and Events
Chatham County is committed to providing employees with opportunities to improve their overall health and well-being. Working with Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC, the Wellness Committee, recently renamed Chatham H.E.A.T. (Healthy Employees Achieving Together) sponsors a number of wellness activities including wellness challenges and an employee garden. Retirement and Deferred Compensation Benefits
Local Government Employees' Retirement System
For employees assigned to work 20 hours per week or more, participation in the NC Local Governmental Employee’s Retirement System is required. Fully vested after 5 years of contributing service.
North Carolina 401(k) Plan
Chatham County contributes 4.5% of salary for non-law enforcement employees and 5% of salary for law enforcement employees to the state 401(k) plan, managed by Prudential.
Tax Deferred 457 Plan
Tax-sheltering programs are available through IRS Code 125 (Cafeteria Plan), 401 (k) and 457 (Deferred Compensation).

Paid Leave Time
Full-time employees earn from 12-25 days annually based on years of service.
Full-time employees earn one day (8 hours) of sick leave per month, with the unused accumulation applying toward retirement benefits after meeting basic retirement qualifications. Chatham County does accept transfers of sick leave from other local jurisdictions and the State of North Carolina.
Full-time regular employee will be allowed up to fourteen (14) hours of annual paid petty leave in addition to the designated sick and vacation leave. Part-time regular employee will be given petty leave in proportion to the time he/she worked. Any employee hired after January 15 of the year will receive a prorated amount of petty leave for that year.
Other Types of Leave
Chatham County also offers other types of leave such as Family Medical Leave, Court Leave, Educational Leave, Emergency Volunteer Service Leave, Funeral Leave, Leave Without Pay, School Activity Leave, Donated Leave and Workers Compensation Leave. We also recently added two new types of leave: Volunteer Service Leave and the Tobacco Free Petty Leave Incentive.
New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr’s Birthday, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day after, and three days at Christmas.

Optional coverage plans are available through Colonial Insurance and AFLAC.
Short Term Disability
Voluntary short-term disability coverage is available through Colonial Insurance and AFLAC.
Long Term Disability
Voluntary long-term disability coverage is provided through Standard Insurance Company.
Flexible Spending Accounts
Pre-tax accounts which can be used to pay for out-of-pocket medical, dental, vision or dependent care expenses, or uninsured medical, dental, or vision expenses. This program is provided by Flores & Associates.
Employee Assistance Program
Counseling Services available to all County employees and eligible dependents to assist in the treatment of problems. Services are provided in a private and confidential setting through BHS.
LegalShield gives employees access to an attorney without worrying about the high hourly costs. They cover many areas of legal assistance including family, financial, home, auto and estate planning.
Liberty Mutual Insurance
Auto and home insurance is provided through Liberty Mutual Insurance Company and premiums can be payroll deducted.
Local Government Credit Union
The North Carolina Local Government Employees' Federal Credit Union offers a variety of savings and other financial plans including direct deposit of payroll checks. You must personally contact the Credit Union to arrange these services. Services are administered through the State Employees Credit Union.
