Throughout Chatham County are dozens of unincorporated communities—some with small downtown areas, such as Moncure and Gulf, and some are tiny crossroads. All of them have a rich history and have made important contributions to Chatham County. Many of festivals or other events that have been around for many years, such as Old-Fashioned Farmer’s Day held each September in Silk Hope, the longest-running festival in the county.
