The Board of Equalization and Review hears and reviews appeals of property listings and valuations placed on property subject to county taxes. The Board’s bylaws are determined by North Carolina state law (State Statute 105-322).

NOTE:   If you appealed to the Board of E&R and you wish to continue the appeal process, the next avenue of appeal is to the North Carolina Property Tax Commission. Click here for more information regarding the NC PTC.

The Board meets in the spring between the first Monday in April and the first Monday in May to hear taxpayer appeals. Other meetings are scheduled as needed. Three notices stating the date, time and place of the meetings are published as a legal advertisement in the Chatham News and the Chatham Record. The first notice is published at least 10 days prior to the first meeting. The meetings are typically held in the County Tax Office.
