Is it true that only part of Chatham County has zoning?

No. Since August 2016, the Board of Commissioners zoned the entire county. Pittsboro, Siler City, Goldston, and a few areas of Cary within Chatham County have their own jurisdictions, which you can view Here.

When was zoning adopted in Chatham County?

  • Williams and Baldwin Townships – 1968 until March 1973; Re-adopted April 1973;
  • New Hope and part of Cape Fear Townships – December 1983.
  • The remainder of Cape Fear (South of US 1), portions of the Haw River, Oakland, and Center Townships – December 1990.
  • The remainder of Haw River, Oakland, and Center, and the entirety of Hadley, Hickory Mountain, Gulf, Bear Creek, Matthews, and Albright – August 2016
