Because representatives of Chatham County government communicate through these sites, any communications posted on county social media webpages, including comments or questions posted by the public may be subject to the North Carolina Public Records law.

Any communications posted on county-sponsored social media sites by someone other than an official representative of Chatham County government is solely the view and opinion of the author, not Chatham County, any members of its staff, or any public official.
Once posted, Chatham County reserves the right to delete public submissions that contain vulgar language, personal attacks of any kind, or offensive comments that target or disparage any group of people because of some shared characteristic. Any comments viewed as threatening, libelous, or harassing are prohibited and subject to deletion. Further, Chatham County also reserves the right to delete comments that contain the following:
- Spam, advertising or links to other sites
- Content that is clearly off topic and/or disruptive
- The promotion of any illegal activity
- Promotions for any particular services, products, or political organizations
- Copyrighted or trademarked material
- Personal identifications, such as home addresses, phone numbers or other personal information
