Chatham County Residents Receive Food and Nutrition Benefits Early
PITTSBORO, NC— Due to Hurricane Dorian, some Chatham County Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) beneficiaries were issued their benefits early on September 7,, 2019. This only applied to households scheduled to receive benefits from September 9-21. Not all beneficiaries will be impacted.
“It is important to know that the benefits issued were not extra benefits. Benefits were issued early to allow recipients to prepare for storm impacts,” said Donna Gigowski, program administrator, Chatham County Department of Social Services.
During October, households receiving FNS benefits from October 1-15 will receive benefits on their normal schedule. Those receiving benefits from October 17-21 will receive them on October 15. After October, benefit issuance will resume a regular schedule.
FNS is a federal food assistance program that provides low-income families with funds to purchase food needed for a nutritional, adequate diet.
Individuals with questions about benefits can call the EBT Call Center at 1-888-622-7328. There is also a new ebtEDGE app.
