A “Point in Time” Count of the Homeless is Coming Soon to Chatham

Quick Need for Donated Items as Incentives

Post Date:01/23/2019 2:09 PM

From January 31 to February 1, a regional committee that helps rural counties tap federal Housing & Urban Development funding to end homelessness will conduct the annual count of homeless individuals in Chatham County. The PRACC Region 6 Committee serves Person, Rockingham, Alamance, Chatham and Caswell counties as part of the NC Continuum of Care Program.

The data collected as part of the count will identify gaps in services as well as barriers that prevent individuals securing a place to live.

As an incentive to participation in the count, the program offers homeless individuals and families several much-needed items that are donated by the community. They seek donations of items for this effort, but must be received by January 25.

  • Backpacks (gently used or new)
  • Flashlights
  • Batteries (all sizes)
  • Gloves
  • Brushes/Combs
  • Ponchos
  • Deodorant
  • Sleeping Bags
  • Feminine Hygiene Products
  • Socks
  • First Aid Kits/Band-Aids
  • Toboggan/Knit Caps

These items can be dropped off at the following locations no later than January 25.

  • Central Piedmont Community Action, 1401 Ross Avenue, Siler City, NC 27344, 919-742-2277
  • Chatham Community Library, 197 NC-87, Pittsboro, NC 27312, 919-545-8084
