These programs are offered at the Main Facility located at 28 County Services Road, Pittsboro NC. The Main Facility is off of Highway 64, about six miles west of Pittsboro. Turn onto Renaissance Drive. 

Yard Waste Recycling

We can accept yard waste at our Main Solid Waste & Recycling Facility, Monday-Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. The charge to dispose of yard waste is $20/ton, with a $2 minimum.  The following is a list of items that we can and cannot take in the yard waste.

ACCEPTED in Yard Waste:
Grass clippings
Stumps- with no excess dirt
Wood- untreated, unpainted
Wood pallets- untreated, unpainted
               NOT ACCEPTED in Yard Waste:
Biodegradable yard bags
Treated or painted wood
Plastic bags
Excessive dirt

Mulch Sales


Mulch is available for purchase at the Solid Waste & Recycling Main Facility. Sales occur every Saturday, starting March 3, except no sales on March 31 due to Easter.

Sales are from 7:30 AM to Noon. Sales will continue every Saturday, until supplies run out, which is estimated to be through the middle of May.

Mulch is $5 per scoop and each scoop is approximately 1 cubic yard.  We load it, you haul it. Don’t forget a tarp!

ATTENTION: Chatham County is not responsible for damage caused by the mulch or for any damage that you or your property may suffer from loading of mulch.

Compost Bins for Sale


Backyard Composters: $45 each

Make your own free compost and have healthier soil, diverting up to 30% of your household garbage. Backyard compost bins can be purchased at the Main Solid Waste & Recycling Facility, Monday-Friday from 7am to 4pm. For more information visit EnviroWorld’s website
