SUMMARY OF DIVISION:   

Services designed to protect and prepare the community from known and emerging communicable diseases, other threats to health and safety, Bioterrorism, chemical and radiological threats. This Division is responsible for enforcing all NC General Statutes relating to communicable disease and reporting and coordinating the public health emergency response to natural disasters and acts of biological, chemical and radiological terrorism

MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

  • Communicable Disease (CD):  In cooperation with local physicians and nurse practitioners, CD nurses investigate and report cases of infectious disease (tuberculosis, sexually-transmitted diseases, hepatitis, food-borne illnesses, etc.) to the NC Division of Public Health.   
  • Community Alternatives Program (CAP/DA, CAP/Choice & Money Follows the Person):  Alternative to nursing home care - support and assistance to disabled adults living in the community.
