Two outstanding programs offer opportunities to lean more about Chatham County and its local governments:
Chatham County Citizens' College
This program is offered jointly by Chatham County and Central Carolina Community College's Continuing Education Program. Over seven Thursday evenings in the fall of each year, the program gives basic information on county, town and school systems within Chatham County. The topics include county & town administration, elections, planning, water utilities, waste & recycling, courts and law enforcement, fire protection, emergency management and others.
We will post a news item on the county website in June when it is time to register through Central Carolina Community College in Pittsboro.
The Chatham Chamber of Commerce offers Leadership Chatham, an innovative program designed to develop informed, skilled, and involved community leaders. It is a 10-session program, with one session per month featuring tours and educational sessions. Topics covered during the sessions include team building, agriculture, tourism, government, public safety, cultural diversity, health & human services, public safety and economic development.
Each Leadership Chatham class year begins in September with an Opening Reception/Orientation held in the evening. The year ends with graduation in June of the following year. All educational sessions are daytime sessions that begin promptly around 8:00 or 8:30 a.m. and end between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. These full-day sessions are held one time a month, usually on the second Thursday of the month. The Team Building session, held in September, is sometimes scheduled on a Tuesday or Wednesday.
