As individual citizens, we can do our part by conserving water. Water is our most precious resource.
Listed below are ways that you can help conserve water!
- Turn off the water when you brush your teeth. Just get a handful of water to rinse.
- Only use the dishwasher when you have a full load. A dishwasher uses only 3 to 4 gallons of water, but if you wash dishes in the sink and let the water run in the process, you can waste 15 to 20 gallons. Use the water-saving option if you have one on your dishwasher.
- If you wash dishes in the sink, rinse most of your items at one time and only use one sink of soapy water for washing.
- Fix leaky toilets and fixtures. If you are not sure if you have a leak, click here for a link to good information to diagnose what may be leaking.
- Replace your toilets with low-flow models and don't use the toilet as a disposal for trash.
- Replace dishwashers and washing machines with models that have reduced water consumption options, such as front-load washing machines.
- Replace showerheads with new options that reduce water output without sacrificing the quality of your shower.
- Limit the time you are in the shower or take baths instead. And do you really need that whole tub full of water?
- Make sure that no outside faucets or hoses are dripping or leaking.
