How do I start my service? 

IMPORTANT:  This page is for residences and businesses already connected to the Chatham County Water System and with a working meter installed, but who need to initiate water service.  If you need information on tapping on to county waterlines or setting meters at construction sites, click here.

Chatham County Water is pleased to provide you with water service for your home or business our friendly staff can help you with your water needs.  Chatham County does not service the water for the Town of  Siler City, The Town of Pittsboro and Goldston-Gulf Sanitary District. Click here for contact information on these water systems.

If you have any questions on how to establish service, discontinue service, billing information or water meter requirements, please call Customer Service at (919)542-8270.

HOMEOWNERS:

If you are a property owner (you purchased the property and have a settlement statement, warranty deed or security deed to show as proof), you will need the following to establish service:

1. Completed Water Service application (click here to complete online service application) or access a PDF copy that you can save/print.
2. Proof of ownership (settlement statement, warranty deed or security deed) of the property (home and land)
3. A deposit of $40 made payable to Chatham County Utility Department
4. A current government issued photo ID.

RENTERS:

If you are a rental customer (you rent rather than own the property where you reside), you will need to provide the following to establish service:

1. Completed Water Service application (click here to complete online service application) or access a PDF copy that you can save/print.
2. Lease agreement from the owner
3. A deposit of $80 made payable to Chatham County Utility Department
4. A current government issued photo ID.

BUSINESSES & INDUSTRIES: 

If you are a business or industrial production customer, you will need to provide the following to establish service:

1. Completed Commercial Water Service application (click here to complete online service application) or access a PDF copy that you can save/print. A deposit made payable to Chatham County Utility Department.  The deposit is $40 if you own the property served by water or $80 if you lease the property.

DEPOSITS: 

All customers are required to pay a deposit.  We do not perform credit checks on utility customers.  Deposits can be paid at the Water Department office located at 70 South Street behind the Courthouse Annex building in Pittsboro or mail them to:  Chatham County Water, P. O. Box 910, Pittsboro, NC 27312. Deposits must be received before service is initiated.
