Chatham Social Services Seeks Your Help for Christmas Wishes for Children
The program served 330 children in need in 2016
Are you looking for a way to give back this holiday season? Brighten up the holidays for children in need by participating in Christmas Wishes, a program of the Chatham County Department of Social Services (DSS). It is designed to grant three specific holiday wishes to children involved in various programs with Social Services.
Christmas Wishes has grown much over the past eleven years and was able to assist over 330 children in the 2016 holiday season. This has been by virtue of the support of over 100 community donors, both families and organizations, who commit to sponsorship year after year.
“We are so fortunate to belong to a supportive and giving community like Chatham County. Each year I am personally moved by the giving nature and good will of those who step up to support the children of our community in this way,” said Wilder Horner, DSS placement services supervisor. “This holiday season, as with most, we anticipate a greater need than the year before. We will need the support and generosity of community members to ensure that every wish is granted.”
Donors can choose to sponsor specific wishes of one, or more, of our children, or can send a monetary donation to the Foster Children’s Fund. This fund is helps serve the additional unmet needs of children both during the holiday season and throughout the coming year.
“Wishes come in all shapes and sizes, so even the smallest donation is welcomed and can make a difference in a child’s holiday experience,” Horner said. “We do ask that all donations be of new items, we cannot gift used items, even those in good condition.”
