Woman Linked to Puppy-Selling Scam
On September 2, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office received a report of possible fraud after a victim reported paying money online for a puppy that was never received.
According to the report, the victim transferred $150 via PayPal to Jacqueline Renee Garrett, 37, of 4709 Indian Springs Road, Seven Springs, NC, as payment for a puppy. After the money was sent, Garrett’s phone number was disconnected and the victim could no longer make contact regarding the puppy. A search for Garrett’s social media accounts revealed posts from other disgruntled buyers who were also victims of the puppy scam.
Garrett is charged with felony obtaining property by false pretenses and was assigned a $5,000 unsecured bond. She is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on October 23, 2017.
