Man Arrested for Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling
Shortly after 2 AM on May 27, Chatham County deputies were dispatched to an address off Merry Oaks Cemetery Road, New Hill, in response to an alleged shooting into an occupied dwelling. Deputies arrived to find the front door of the residence damaged by gunshots. Four people were inside the home during the time of the shooting, but luckily no injuries were reported.
The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office charged Kenneth Tyler Halker, 19, of 223 Walford Way, Cary, with four counts of felony shooting into an occupied dwelling as well as two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Investigators say the shooting was not random and that Halker, a former resident of the target address, may have been retaliating for his eviction days earlier.
Halker was arrested in Wake County and assigned a $200,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on June 5, 2017.
