Chatham County Names New Customer Award in Honor of Dawn Stumpf

Post Date:05/16/2017 1:21 PM

At the May 15, 2017 meeting of the Chatham County Board of Commissioners, County Manager Renee Paschal announced the creation of the Dawn Stumpf Award for Excellence in Customer Service. Stumpf served as the director of the Board of Elections for 16 years before retiring in February 2017 due to extended illness.

Paschal explained that naming the award in honor of Dawn Stumpf was an easy decision. “Dawn served as a bright light, a beacon of friendliness and warmth, intertwined with extraordinary competence and excellent customer service. Dawn embodies what I call the ‘Chatham Way.’ She did her job expertly, while making friends along the way. She made everyone feel welcome and she did it while being the best elections director in the state.”

As part of the announcement, the Board of Commissioners made a special presentation to Stumpf’s sister, Jamie Brady, in recognition of Dawn’s extraordinary customer service while leading the Board of Elections office.

The new award will recognize individual employees who demonstrate Chatham County’s commitment to great customer service delivered with friendliness and expertise. “In other words, we will recognize those Doing It the Chatham Way,” said Paschal.

The County Manager will select the recipients using an informal process based on commendations from the public or internal customers. Paschal invited department heads and residents to forward their recommendations to her at renee.paschal@chathamnc.org.

The award will not have a specific schedule. The recognitions will be made as merited. Each recipient will receive a special desk item to display in his or her office.
