Public Invited to Forum on Proposed Repeal of Impact Fees
People interested in learning more about the potential consequences of a proposed General Assembly bill (House Bill 436) to repeal local government impact fees are invited to attend a public forum slated for Wednesday, April 19, 7 to 8:30 PM. The forum is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Orange, Durham and Chatham counties and will be held in the Chapel Hill Town Council Chambers, 405 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. Parking is free.
Some counties and municipalities across the state can currently levy impact fees on developers to help pay for infrastructure needed to support the growing population. Chatham County has impact fees for school and water system construction. House Bill 436 would take away the power to levy these fees.
The forum will include a panel discussion about the likely impact of the repeal on their communities, followed by a question and answer period. .
• Cedric Johnson: Policy Analyst, Budget and Tax Center at The NC Justice Center
• Debra Henzey: Director of Community Relations, Chatham County Manager's Office
• Annette Moore: Interim Director, Orange County Department of Housing, Human Rights and Community Development
