Increasingly, it appears that it could strengthen into a hurricane and possibly make landfall on our coast Wednesday. This means the potential for heavy rains and high winds coming to central parts of the state.

Regardless of Florence’s eventual track, large swells are expected along the East Coast this weekend, resulting in dangerous surf and rip currents along NC beaches.  If Florence doesn’t make that northern turn, as some models suggest, North Carolina could experience tropical storm force winds as early as Wednesday morning of next week.

PREPARE NOW... DO NOT WAIT UNTIL NEXT WEEK!

While it is still too early to know exactly where Florence will track, it is never too early to get your hurricane emergency plan ready. Ensure your family knows how to get to a safe place, contact each other, and how to get back together if separated.  Let’s take advantage of this time we have to prepare to ensure that our resources and equipment are prepped and ready for any eventuality, and make sure our generators and vehicles are topped off, and any maintenance needs are taken care of.   We have all kinds of great preparation tips provided by Chatham County Emergency Management.  CLICK HERE
