Arrest Made in April Fool’s Day Burglary
In the early morning hours of Sunday, April 1, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a breaking and entering at the Quick N Easy convenience store located at 4191 Old US 421, Siler City. A witness called in a tip that a male subject wearing blue jeans and a black sweatshirt was seen fleeing from the rear of the business. The subject was also observed entering a work van and driving away from the scene.
Deputies were able to locate a van matching the description as the driver attempted to leave the area. After conducting a traffic stop, deputies identified and detained the driver, Tristan Wade Brinkman, 31, of 82 Mansfield Way, Pittsboro. Cash register drawers from the Quick N Easy were clearly visible inside the vehicle as well as an open backpack containing a bank deposit envelope belonging to the business. Brinkman was placed under arrest after surveillance footage from the scene corroborated witness statements.
“This is an excellent example of teamwork between our deputies and the community,” says Chatham County Sheriff Mike Roberson. “Law enforcement officers alone do not solve crime. Law enforcement working together with the community solves crime.”
Sheriff Roberson says he is grateful for vigilant residents who do not hesitate to call in suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.
“This particular caller was an excellent witness who took note of the suspect’s clothing and vehicle as he left the area,” adds Sheriff Roberson. “This information was key to the rapid apprehension of the suspect and illustrates why community partnerships are so important.”
Brinkman is charged with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, possession of stolen goods, damage to real property, and possession of burglary tools. He was assigned a $25,000.00 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on April 23.
