OFFICES CLOSED: Christmas Holidays
- Date: 12/25/2017 (all day)
CHRISTMAS & NEW YEAR’S HOLIDAYS: Chatham County government follows the holiday schedule of the State of North Carolina. This means that most county offices, other than public safety and related essential functions, are closed on December 25-27 (Monday-Wednesday), 2017 for Christmas and on Monday, January 1, 2018 for New Year’s. Below are a few exceptions and clarifications:
- Solid Waste & Recycling: The 12 Collection Centers will be closed Sunday, December 24, and Monday, December 25, for the Christmas holiday. They will reopen as usual on Tuesday, December 26, at 7:00 AM. The Centers will also be closed on Monday, January 1. The Main Facility and Office west of Pittsboro will be closed the same days as other county offices noted above.
- County Park Facilities: While the main office of County Parks & Recreation in Pittsboro is closed on the dates above, the county’s park facilities are open except for Monday, Christmas Day.
- Council on Aging Meal Services: The Chatham County Council on Aging uses the same holiday schedule as county offices noted above. However, while both Senior Centers are open with limited staff on Thursday and Friday, December 28-29, 2017, they will NOT serve congregate meals and home-delivered meals on those two days. Instead, staff is using this week to deliver shelf-stable or frozen meals to participants ho would otherwise not have food over the holidays.
LIVE CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING: Chatham County Solid Waste & Recycling offers free Christmas Tree Recycling at the Main Facility from Thursday, December 28, through Friday, January 19. Trees can be accepted Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm except Monday, January 1 and Monday, January 15 when the Main Facility will be closed for holidays. Only real trees can be accepted. All decorations, stands, and pots must be removed. After these dates, we will accept live trees for our normal yard debris charge of $20 per ton, $2 minimum.
NOTE: Artificial Christmas trees, lights, and gift wrapping can also be recycled at the Main Facility and Collection Centers. Tell the center’s attendant what you have when you get to the center and they will direct you.
